Canal Aquatics Community Benefits

  • The learn-to-swim programs will increase the water safety awareness of the surrounding communities.

  • It will serve as a training facility for local aquatic sports teams, school swimming and diving teams, SCUBA, and Emergency Medical Services.

  • The proposed design is based on the state-of-the-art monolithic dome, which will facilitate meeting our goal of being Gold LEED Certified by the US Green Building Council, thus conserving natural resources. This building could also be used as a tornado and hurricane shelter.

  • The facility will be fully accessible and exceed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.

  • Canal Aquatics plans to offer free or reduced price swim lessons to many eligible children in our community through a partnership with USA Swimming's "Make A Splash" learn-to-swim initiative.

  • The facility will be fully capable of hosting large local, state, regional, and national competitions in all Olympic aquatic sports. Visitors will support the local economy through hotel stays, meals, shopping, and tourism.

  • New local job opportunities will be created.

  • The aquatic activities will be aimed at providing a healthy lifestyle for all ages and abilities, in line with U.S. Department of Health physical exercise guidelines.
